Exceeding Expectations

A Review of our Transformational Campaign

Exciting changes as CCVI begins its 60th year

Renovations to the school started July 20, 2012 thanks to a challenge grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation.

“It’s a great feeling knowing CCVI will be able to help more children and families in
need,” Mary Lynne Dolembo, CCVI Executive Director, said. “We are grateful for a
challenge grant from the Mabee Foundation along with grants from the William T.
Kemper (Commerce) Foundation, the Sunderland Foundation, WJ Brace at Bank of
America and the Delta Gamma Foundation for making the renovations possible.”

To meet the needs of our growing enrollment and of serving more children with
multiple disabilities CCVI will renovate and reconfigure its space to create:

  • A new classroom complete with new restroom and hydraulic-lift changing table
  • A new open office space for therapists and infant teachers
  • A larger occupational/physical therapy room
  • A braille room
  • A speech therapy room
  • An assistive technology lab
  • An evaluation/therapy room
  • Renovation of the Family Room
  • Renovation of the main office and administrative offices
  • Parking lot improvements

“As the number of toddlers transitioning out of our Infant Program and into our
Preschool Program continues to increase, having another classroom is necessary,”
Nicole Wood, CCVI Center-Based Program Director, said. “Plus having a larger space for
occupational and physical therapy increases the amount of services we can offer.”

Increased enrollment also means an increase in use of the Family Room, also slated for
renovation.

“Having a place to relax is important to our parents,” CCVI Social Worker Lisa Lind said.
“The parents like the Family Room for a place to connect with other families who have
the same perspective, and to share their joys and sorrows, and words of wisdom.”

The entire renovation project will cost approximately $800,000 and will be completed
by the end of Aug. 2012.
