Parent Group cards, featuring artwork by visually impaired artist Jeff Hanson, now available

The Parent Group is selling a different type of card this year. Featuring the artwork of local visually impaired artist Jeff Hanson, the six all-occasion cards are blank on the inside so they are perfect for year-round use. The cards are $12 for the set of six.

About the Parent Group

At CCVI, each parent cares not only for his or her own child, but also for all the CCVI children. Since our opening in 1952, parents have supported CCVI in many ways — from painting and repairing a classroom in our first school building to volunteering time in the classrooms and for special events. As a support group, the Parent Group meets monthly for educational and social opportunities.

Each year the Parent Group sponsors an ice cream social in early fall to kick-off the new school year, as well as provides a treat to the staff on the first day back. Social activities have included a poker night, Parents Night Out and Braille Boot Camp.

Educational programs for parents have included speakers from the CCVI staff, national experts in vision impairment and community resources for children with disabilities. Recent topics included using humor to manage the stresses of raising a child with special needs,  making simple adaptations to facilitate teaching visually impaired children about their environment and planning for appropriate care of special needs children in the parent's absence.  

Parents set up Family Teams for CCVI's biggest fundraiser, the Trolley Run, where they compete to raise the most donations and create the largest teams. The Parent Group is also involved in raising much-needed funds for scholarships, emergency medical, family and therapy needs. Each year the group sells cards as their major fundraiser.
